The Secretary of State for Transport makes the following Regulations in exercise of the power conferred by section 21(3) of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 (1) and by virtue of the Department for Transport (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration Fees) Order 2003.(2)

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 and shall come into force on the 1st April 2008.

Amendment of Regulations

2.  In regulation 10 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002(3) (registration and issue of registration document), in paragraph (1) for “£50” there shall be substituted “£55”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2002 to increase the fee payable in respect of first registration.

The Regulations provide that on the 1st April 2008 the first registration fee increases from £50 to £55 (an increase of 10%) (regulation 2).

A full regulatory impact assessment of the effect that these Regulations will have on the costs of business and the voluntary sector is available from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Finance Group, Longview Road, Morriston, Swansea SA6 7JL and is annexed to the explanatory memorandum which is available alongside the Regulations on the OPSI website, www.opsi.gov.uk. A copy of the assessment has also been placed in the library of each House of Parliament.
