In these Regulations—

  • “carcase” means a carcase or part of a carcase of a pig;

  • “infected premises” means any premises declared as such by the Secretary of State under Part 3;

  • “inspector” and “veterinary inspector” mean persons appointed as such under the Animal Health Act 19813;

  • “livestock” means hoofed animals other than horses;

  • “local authority” means—

    1. a

      where there is, within the meaning of the Local Government Changes for England Regulations 19944, a unitary authority for that local government area, that authority;

    2. b

      where there is not a unitary authority—

      1. i

        in a metropolitan district, the council of that district;

      2. ii

        in a non-metropolitan county, the county council;

      3. iii

        in each London borough the council of that borough; or

      4. iv

        in the City of London, the Common Council;

  • “pig” means any animal of the suidae family;

  • “premises” includes any place.
