This Order may be cited as the Local Elections (Northern Ireland) Order 2010.

This Order comes into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

This Order does not apply to an election to fill a casual vacancy in a district council that occurred (within the meaning of section 11(5) of the 1962 Act M1) on or before the day on which this Order comes into force.
Interpretation2

The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 M5 applies to Article 1 and this Article and the following provisions of this Order as it applies to an Act of the Assembly.
Date of next local elections3
In 2011 the election day (within the meaning of section 11(1) M6 of the 1962 Act) is the first Thursday in May (5th May).
Amendments to the 1962 Act4
Schedule 1 to this Order has effect.
Amendments to the 1985 Order5
Schedule 2 to this Order has effect.
Amendments to the Elections Act 20016

The Schedule to the Elections Act 2001 M7 is amended as follows.

In Schedule 2 to the Police and Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1989 M8, the entry in respect of rule 33 of Schedule 5 to the 1962 Act is revoked.

In the Postponement of Local Elections (Northern Ireland) Order 2009 M9, article 2(3) (which provides that section 11(1A) of the 1962 Act does not apply to the local general election in 2011) is revoked.
