76. Where a person knowingly provides money—
(a)for any payment which is contrary to the provisions of this Order;
(b)for any expenses incurred in excess of the maximum amount allowed by this Order; or
(c)for replacing any money expended in any such payment or expenses,
except where the payment or the incurring of the expenses may have been previously allowed in pursuance of section 167 of the 1983 Act (as applied by this Order)(1) (application for relief) to be an exception, that person shall be guilty of an illegal payment.
Section 167 is applied by article 84 of and Schedule 6 to this Order. Section 167(1A) was inserted by the Representation of the People Act 1985 (c.50), section 24 and amended by the 2000 Political Parties Act, Schedule 18, paragraph 18(5).
