The Secretary of State may suspend a passenger ship safety certificate where the Secretary of State has reason to believe that since the completion of any survey required by or under these Regulations, the structure, equipment or machinery of the ship has sustained damage or is otherwise deficient.

Immediately on suspending a passenger ship safety certificate under paragraph (1), the Secretary of State must give notice of the suspension to the owner and the master of the ship.
