Section 125 (duration of introductory tenancy) is amended as follows.

In subsection (3) for “or held an assured shorthold tenancy from a registered social landlord” substitute “or a relevant assured shorthold tenancy”.

After subsection (3) insert—
3A
In subsection (3) “relevant assured shorthold tenancy” means—
a
an assured shorthold tenancy in respect of social housing under which the landlord is a private registered provider of social housing, or
b
an assured shorthold tenancy under which the landlord is a registered social landlord;
and for these purposes “social housing” has the same meaning as in Part 2 of the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008.
