CHAPTER 2MAXIMUM AMOUNTS OF LOANS

This regulation applies to a 2012 cohort student with full entitlement.

Subject to Chapter 4 of this Part and paragraph (5), where the student's household income exceeds £42,875 the maximum amount of loan for living costs for which a student to whom this regulation applies qualifies in respect of an academic year other than the final year of a course that is not an intensive course is equal toX−Ymath where—

  • X is—

    1. i

      for a student in category A, F15£5,410;

    2. ii

      for a student in category B, F16£9,490;

    3. iii

      for a student in category C, F17£8,081;

    4. iv

      for a student in category D, F18£6,802;

  • Subject to paragraph (4), Y is £1 for every complete F1£8.11 by which the household income exceeds £42,875.

Subject to Chapter 4 of this Part and paragraph (5), where the student's household income exceeds £42,875, the maximum amount of loan for living costs for which a student to whom this regulation applies qualifies in respect of an academic year that is the final year of a course that is not an intensive course is equal toX−Ymath where—

  • X is—

    1. i

      for a student in category A, F19£4,970;

    2. ii

      for a student in category B, F20£8,643;

    3. iii

      for a student in category C, F21£7,023;

    4. iv

      for a student in category D, F22£6,325;

  • Subject to paragraph (4), Y is £1 for every complete F2£8.11 by which the household income exceeds £42,875.

Where the same household income is used to assess the amount of a statutory award for which two or more persons qualify, Y in paragraphs (2) and (3) must be divided by the number of such persons before being deducted from X.

Where the maximum amount of loan for living costs is calculated in accordance with paragraph (2) or (3) and is less than the minimum level for the academic year specified in regulation 105, the minimum level for the academic year is payable.

Subject to Chapter 4 of this Part, where the student's household income exceeds F3£42,721 but does not exceed £42,875, the maximum amount of loan for living costs for which a student to whom this regulation applies qualifies in respect of an academic year other than the final year of a course that is not an intensive course is—

a

for a student in category A, F4£5,410;

b

for a student in category B, F5£9,490;

c

for a student in category C, F6£8,081;

d

for a student in category D, F7£6,802.

Subject to Chapter 4 of this Part, where the student's household income exceeds F8£42,721 but does not exceed £42,875 the maximum amount of loan for living costs for which a student to whom this regulation applies qualifies in respect of an academic year that is the final year of a course that is not an intensive course is—

a

for a student in category A, F9£4,970;

b

for a student in category B, F10£8,643;

c

for a student in category C, F11£7,023;

d

for a student in category D, F12£6,325.

      for a student in category B, F24£9,490;

    3. iii

      for a student in category C, F25£8,081;

    4. iv

  • Y is the maintenance grant amount.

Subject to Chapter 4 of this Part, where the student's household income is F14£42,721 or less, the maximum amount of loan for living costs for which a student to whom this regulation applies qualifies in respect of an academic year that is the final year of a course that is not an intensive course is equal toX−Ymath where—

  • X is—

    1. i

      for a student in category A, F27£4,970;

    2. ii

      for a student in category B, F28£8,643;

    3. iii

      for a student in category C, F29£7,023;

    4. iv

      for a student in category D, F30£6,325;

  • Y is the maintenance grant amount.

In this regulation, the “maintenance grant amount” is

a

half the amount of the maintenance grant payable; or

b

where no maintenance grant is payable, nil.
