Citation, commencement and interpretation1

These Regulations may be cited as the Local Authorities (Referendums)(Petitions)(England) Regulations 2011 and shall come into force on 23rd January 2012.

In these Regulations—

  • “the 1972 Act” means the Local Government Act 1972 M1;

  • “the 1983 Act” means the Representation of the People Act 1983 M2

  • “the 2000 Act” means the Local Government Act 2000.

Except where expressly stated to the contrary, any reference in these Regulations to a section followed by a number is a reference to the section bearing that number in the 2000 Act.
