In these Rules—

“anonymous elector’s document” and “temporary electoral identity document” have the meanings given in regulation 3(1) of the Voter Identification Regulations 2022;

voter” means a person entitled to vote on their own behalf.

(2)

References to the register of local government electors (other than a reference to a person's number on the register) must be construed as references to the part or parts of the register or registers of local government electors which has or have effect in respect of the referendum area.

(3)

References to the relevant registration officer are to—

(a)

the registration officer of the relevant council;

(b)

if the referendum area comprises any part of the area of more than one relevant council, the registration officer of the relevant council in whose portion of the referendum area the greater or greatest (as the case may be) number of electors is registered.

(4)

Other expressions used both in these Rules and in the 1983 Act (as it applies to local government elections) have the same meaning in these Rules as they have in that Act.
