1. The Prison Act 1952(1) is amended as follows.

1952 c.52. Section 5A was inserted by the Criminal Justice Act 1982 (c.48) and has been amended by the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 (c.33) and the Police and Justice Act 2006 (c.48). Schedule A1 was inserted by the Police and Justice Act 2006 and has been amended by the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 (c.28), the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (c.14), the Offender Management Act 2007 (Consequential Amendments) Order 2008 (S.I 2008/912), and the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Consequential Amendments No 2) Order 2010 (S.I 2010/813).

Explanatory Memorandum
Explanatory Memorandum sets out a brief statement of the purpose of a Statutory Instrument and provides information about its policy objective and policy implications. They aim to make the Statutory Instrument accessible to readers who are not legally qualified and accompany any Statutory Instrument or Draft Statutory Instrument laid before Parliament from June 2004 onwards.
