Their Lordships make the following Order of Council in exercise of the powers conferred by article 1(3) of the Health Care and Associated Professions (Knowledge of English) Order 2015(1).
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Health Care and Associated Professions (Knowledge of English) Order 2015 (Commencement No. 1) Order of Council 2015 and comes into force on 19th October 2015.
(2) In this Order “the Order” means the Health Care and Associated Professions (Knowledge of English) Order 2015.
2. 19th October 2015 is the appointed day for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Order—
(a)article 15;
(b)article 23;
(c)article 38;
(d)article 43.
3. 4th January 2016 is the appointed day for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Order—
(a)article 45;
(b)article 55.
4. 18th January 2016 is the appointed day for the coming into force of Part 4 of the Order (in so far as not already in force).
5. 1st April 2016 is the appointed day for the coming into force of Part 3 of the Order (in so far as not already in force) except for articles 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 and 27.
6. 1st June 2016 is the appointed day for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Order—
(a)Part 2 (in so far as not already in force);
(b)Part 5 (in so far as not already in force).

This Order of Council is made under article 1(3) of the Health Care and Associated Professions (Knowledge of English) Order 2015 (S.I. 2015/806) (“the Order”). Article 2 makes specific provision in respect of the appointed day for the purpose of article 1(3) of the Order, bringing into force amendments to the Dentists Act 1984 (c. 24), the Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001 (S.I. 2002/253) and the Pharmacy Order 2010 (S.I. 2010/231). These amendments introduce powers in connection with English language controls for dentists and dental care professionals in the United Kingdom, nurses and midwives in the United Kingdom and for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in Great Britain respectively.
