These Regulations revoke the Clinical Thermometers (EEC Requirements) Regulations 1993. The 1993 Regulations implemented Council Directive No.76/64/EEC(1), as amended, relating to mercury in glass thermometers. This Directive is no longer in force. Modern clinical thermometers do not use mercury and are covered by the provisions under the Medical Devices Directive 93/42/EC(2), which is given effect by the Medical Devices Regulations 2002(3).
