Made

12th October 2016

Coming into force

13th October 2016

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 12th day of October 2016

Present,

The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

It appears to Her Majesty that, as the countries specified in article 2 to this Order are party to arrangements for defence co-operation to which the UK is also party, the provisions of the Visiting Forces Act 1952(1) (“the 1952 Act”) following section 1 should have effect in relation to each of those countries:

Accordingly, Her Majesty, on the advice of Her Privy Council and in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by sections 1(2) and 15(2) of the 1952 Act, makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Visiting Forces (Designation) Order 2016 and shall come in to force on 13th October 2016.

2.  Morocco and Oman are hereby designated for the purposes of the 1952 Act.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

The United Kingdom and Morocco concluded an Arrangement on the Status of Forces and Mutual Assistance in September 2013. The United Kingdom and Oman concluded an amendment to their existing 1994 Defence Co-Operation Agreement in May 2016. Both of these accords contain provisions on reciprocal concurrent jurisdictional arrangements. In order to effect those provisions, it is necessary to designate Morocco and Oman as countries to which the Visiting Forces Act 1952 applies.

1952 c. 67; section 1(2) was amended by section 33 of the Armed Forces Act 1996 c. 46.
