A seafarer designated to launch or take charge of a fast rescue boat must hold a certificate of proficiency in such craft.

The Secretary of State or an approved training provider may issue a certificate of proficiency required by paragraph (1) only to a person who meets the criteria specified in STCW Regulation VI/2, paragraph 2 (mandatory minimum requirements for the issue of certificates of proficiency in fast rescue boats).
