Citation, commencement, interpretation and applicationE+W

1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study in Welsh) Order 2000 and, subject to paragraph (2) below, shall come into force on 1st August 2000.

(2)  The provisions of this Order insofar as they relate to the fourth key stage shall come into force—

(a)on 1st August 2001 in respect of pupils in the first year of that key stage: and

(b)on 1st August 2002 in respect of all other pupils in that key stage.

(3)  In this Order—

“the Authority” means the Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales(1) (“yr Awdurdod”);

“the Document” means the document published by the Authority in 2000 entitled “Welsh in the National Curriculum”(2) (“y Ddogfen”);

“the National Assembly” means the National Assembly for Wales (“y Cynulliad Cenedlaethol”); and

references to key stages shall be construed in accordance with section 355(1) of the Education Act 1996.

(3)  This Order applies only to schools in Wales.
