Name, commencement and interpretation

These Regulations are called the Education (School Teachers' Qualifications) (Amendment) (Wales) Regulations 2008 and come into force on 1 September 2008.

The Principal Regulations are amended as follows:

In paragraph 5 of Part 1 of Schedule 2 omit the word “and” at the end of (b).

“(c)
in respect only of persons who commence a course of initial teacher training on or after 1 September 2008 have undertaken any period of practical teaching experience for the purposes of that course of initial teacher training wholly or mainly in a school, independent school or other institution (except a pupil referral unit) in Wales; and”.

In paragraph 5 of Part 1 of Schedule 2 for “(c)” substitute “(d)”.

In paragraph 11(3)(a) of Part 1 of Schedule 2 after “the licence;” insert “and”.

Omit paragraph 11(3)(b) of Part 1 of Schedule 2.

In sub-paragraph 11(3) of Part 1 of Schedule 2 for “(c)” substitute “(b)”.

In paragraph (4) of regulation 6 and in sub-paragraph 11(1), sub-paragraph 11(2) and paragraph 11(3)(a) of Part 1 of Schedule 2 for “the States of Guernsey Education Council” substitute “the States of Guernsey Education Department”.
These Regulations (which apply in relation to Wales) amend the Education (School Teachers' Qualifications) (Wales) Regulations 2004. Changes have been made to a number of the requirements that have to be met to achieve qualified teacher status in Wales. An amendment is made to references to the States of Guernsey Education Council, which ceased to exist on 6 May 2004 and was replaced by the States of Guernsey Education Department.
