The General Teaching Council for Wales (Amendment) Order 2012

Coming into force in accordance with regulation 1(2)

The Welsh Ministers make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred upon the Secretary of State by section 8(1) and (2) of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 19981 and now exercisable by them2:

Title and commencement1

The title of this Order is the General Teaching Council for Wales (Amendment) Order 2012.

This Order comes into force on the day that section 7 of the Education Act 20113 comes into force.

Amendment of the General Teaching Council for Wales Order 19982

The General Teaching Council for Wales Order 19984 is amended as follows.

In article 3 omit the words “as they have effect in relation to the General Teaching Council for England”.

The General Teaching Council for Wales Order 1998 (“the 1998 Order”) established the General Teaching Council for Wales and gave effect to a number of sections of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998 in relation to that body. This Order amends the 1998 Order as a consequence of the Education Act 2011, which provides for the abolition of the General Teaching Council for England.

Article 2 of this Order amends the 1998 Order so that a reference to the General Teaching Council for England is omitted.
