Title, commencement and application
1.—(1) The title of these Regulations is the Education (Student Support) (Miscellaneous Amendments) (Wales) Regulations 2021.
(2) These Regulations come into force on 26 February 2021 and apply to the provision of support to students in relation to an academic year which begins on or after 1 August 2021, whether anything done under these Regulations is done before, on or after that date.

CHAPTER 1AMENDMENTS TO THE EDUCATION (STUDENT SUPPORT) (WALES) REGULATIONS 2017
Amendments to the Education (Student Support) (Wales) Regulations 2017
2. The Education (Student Support) (Wales) Regulations 2017(1) are amended in accordance with regulations 3 to 7.
3. In regulation 24 (grants for disabled students’ living costs)—
(a)for paragraph (3) substitute—
“(3) The amount of the grant for disabled students’ living costs must not exceed—
(a)£31,831 in respect of an academic year for expenditure on a non-medical personal helper, major items of specialist equipment and any other expenditure the eligible student incurs in connection with the course by reason of the student’s disability (apart from the expenditure specified in sub-paragraph (b)); and
(b)the additional expenditure incurred—
(i)within the United Kingdom for the purpose of attending the institution; and
(ii)within or outside the United Kingdom for the purpose of attending, as part of the eligible student’s course, any period of study at an overseas institution or for the purpose of attending the Institute.”;

CHAPTER 1AMENDMENTS TO THE EDUCATION (STUDENT SUPPORT) (WALES) REGULATIONS 2017
Amendments to the Education (Student Support) (Wales) Regulations 2017
40. The Education (Student Support) (Wales) Regulations 2017 are amended in accordance with regulations 41 to 43.
Amendments to regulation 2
41. In regulation 2 (interpretation), in paragraph (1), insert the following entries into the appropriate places—
““Common Aggregation Hierarchy” (“Hierarchiaeth Cydgasglu Cyffredin”) has the meaning given in regulation 81(29);”;
““Higher Education Classification of Subjects” (“Dosbarthiad Pynciau Addysg Uwch”) has the meaning given in regulation 81(29);”.
Amendments to regulation 81
42. In regulation 81 (eligible part-time students)—
(a)for paragraph (28) substitute—
“(28) A course is specified for the purpose of paragraph (27) if—
(a)it is concerned with the study of the history, grammar and use of Welsh;
(b)it is a course whose code and label under the Higher Education Classification of Subjects are listed in Schedule 7; or
(c)the course is listed in the Higher Education Classification of Subjects in one of the Common Aggregation Hierarchy groups in Column 1 of Table A1 except for those subjects whose code and label under the Higher Education Classification of Subjects is specified in the corresponding entry in Column 2.

(a)for the reference to “paragraph (28)(c) of regulation 81” substitute “paragraph (28)(b) of regulation 81”;

Amendments to the Education (Student Support) (Wales) Regulations 2018
44. The Education (Student Support) (Wales) Regulations 2018 are amended in accordance with regulations 45 to 47.
Amendments to regulation 25
45. In regulation 25 (part-time students – restrictions on support for graduates)—
(a)in paragraph (2), for Case 3 substitute—
“Case 3
The present course leads to an honours degree and is—
(a)concerned with the study of the history, grammar and use of Welsh,
(b)a course whose code and label under the Higher Education Classification of Subjects are listed in Schedule 5A, or
(c)listed in the Higher Education Classification of Subjects in one of the Common Aggregation Hierarchy groups in Column 1 of Table A1 except for those subjects whose code and label under the Higher Education Classification of Subjects are specified in the corresponding entry in Column 2.
