The Scottish Ministers make the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 35(2) of the Scottish Elections (Reform) Act 2020(1).

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Scottish Elections (Reform) Act 2020 (Commencement No. 1) Regulations 2020 and come into force on 1 October 2020.

(2) In these Regulations “the Act” means the Scottish Elections (Reform) Act 2020.

Appointed day

2.  1 October 2020 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the provisions of the Act specified in column 1 of the table in the schedule (the subject matter of which is specified in column 2 of that table).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

The Bill for the Scottish Elections (Reform) Act 2020 (“the Act”) received Royal Assent on 8 July 2020. Part 5 of the Act came into force on the following day. These Regulations bring into force sections 1, 3, 6 to 9, 11, 13 to 19 and 22 to 27 of the Scottish Elections (Reform) Act 2020 on 1 October 2020.
