The Education (Direct Grant Schools) (Revocation) Regulations 1998

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 84(5) of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988(1) and by sections 485, 491, 518 and 548(5) of the Education Act 1996(2), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Direct Grant Schools) (Revocation) Regulations 1998, and shall come into force on 16th February 1998.

2.  The Regulations specified in Schedule 1 to these Regulations are revoked to the extent specified in that Schedule.

3.  The Regulations specified in Schedule 2 to these Regulations are amended to the extent specified in that Schedule.

Regulation 3

SCHEDULE 2Consequential Amendment

In regulation 4 of the Scholarships and Other Benefits Regulations 1977(3), for paragraph (d) there shall be substituted—

(d)pay the whole or any part of the tuition fees, boarding or lodging fees and expenses payable in respect of children attending schools at which fees are payable;.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations revoke the Direct Grant Schools Regulations 1959 and the Direct Grant Grammar Schools (Cessation of Grant) Regulations 1975 (both of which are spent) and the Regulations which amended them. They also contain consequential revocations and amendments to the provisions of other Regulations.
