The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 63(1) and (5) of, and paragraphs 1(2) and 2(1) and (2) of Schedule 7 to, the Environment Act 1995(1), and after consultation with the councils for every principal area the whole or any part of which is comprised in Northumberland National Park(2), makes the following Order.
1. This Order may be cited as the National Park Authorities (Amendment) (England) Order 2009 and comes into force on 1st April 2009.
2.—(1) Schedule 1 to the National Park Authorities (England) Order 1996(3) is amended as follows.
(2) In Part 1 (membership of National Park Authorities), in relation to the entry “Northumberland” in column (1)—
(a)in column (3), for “12” substitute “6”;
(b)in column (4), for “10” substitute “16”; and
(c)in column (5), for “4” substitute “6”.
(3) In Part 2 (appointment of local authority members), in relation to the entry “Northumberland National Park Authority” in the first column—
(a)in the second column, for “Northumberland County Council” substitute “Northumberland Council”; and
(b)in the second column, delete the entries “Alnwick District Council”, “Berwick upon Tweed Borough Council” and “Tynedale District Council”, and in the third column, delete the entries relating to those entries.

This Order amends the National Park Authorities (England) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1243) so as to amend the membership of the Northumberland National Park Authority, following the Northumberland (Structural Change) Order 2008 (S.I. 2008/494), under which district councils in Northumberland will be abolished on 1st April 2009.
The total membership of Northumberland National Park Authority remains at 22. This Order reduces the number of local authority members for Northumberland National Park Authority from 12 to 6; increases the number of parish members appointed by the Secretary of State from 4 to 6; and increases the number of other members appointed by the Secretary of State from 6 to 10.
An impact assessment has not been prepared for this instrument, as it has no impact on the costs of business.

S.I. 1996/1243; Schedule 1 was substituted by S.I. 2006/3165. There are other amending instruments but none is relevant.
