ROAD TRAFFIC AND VEHICLES

WHEREAS the Department of the Environment is satisfied that it is desirable in the interests of safety to restrict the speed of motor vehicles on part of Sydenham By-Pass, Route A2, Belfast;
AND WHEREAS the Department has published notice of its intention in compliance with Article 51(1) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1);
NOW THEREFORE the Department, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 51(1) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Temporary Speed Limit (Sydenham By-Pass, Route A2, Belfast) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 10th June 1996.
2.—(1) The driving of motor vehicles at a speed greater than 30 miles per hour on the eastbound carriageway of Sydenham By-Pass, Route A2, Belfast, from its junction with Middlepath Street, to its junction with Dee Street, is prohibited for a period of 4 months from 9th June 1996.
(2) The driving of motor vehicles at a speed greater than 30 miles per hour on the westbound carriageway of Sydenham By-Pass, Route A2, Belfast, from its junction with Dee Street, to a point approximately 240 metres west of that junction, is prohibited for a period of 4 months from 9th June 1996.

This Order prohibits in the interest of safety the driving of motor vehicles at more than 30 miles per hour on the eastbound carriageway of Sydenham By-Pass, Route A2, Belfast, from its junction with Middlepath Street, to its junction with Dee Street, and on the westbound carriageway of Sydenham By-Pass, Route A2, Belfast, from its junction with Dee Street, to a point approximately 240 metres west of that junction for a period of 4 months commencing on 10th June 1996.
Any person who acts in contravention of the Order shall be guilty of an offence under the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 and shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale (£1,000).
Traffic signs indicating the effect of the Order will in due course be erected on the road.
