Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Trunk Road T3 (Western Transport Corridor) Order (Northern Ireland) 2017 and comes into operation on 5th January 2018.

2.—(1) In this Order—

“Maps 1 – 40” means the sequence of drawings comprising 40 drawings respectively numbered 796036-D65-2017-01 to 796036-D65-2017-40, and marked “The Trunk Road T3 (Western Transport Corridor) Order (Northern Ireland) 2017”, copies of which have been deposited at the Department for Infrastructure’s offices, Headquarters, Clarence Court, 10-18 Adelaide Street, Belfast, BT2 8GB and Western Division, County Hall, Drumragh Avenue, Omagh, BT79 7AF;

(2) any reference to a numbered Map is a reference to the relevant numbered drawing forming part of Maps 1 to 40.

Designation as trunk road

3.—(1) The Department directs as follows—

(2) the new road which the Department proposes to construct along the route described in Part I of the Schedule shall become a trunk road and be part of the Belfast-Ballygawley-Londonderry-Land Frontier Trunk Road-T3;

(3) the length of the new road described in Part II of the Schedule which the Department proposes to construct shall become a trunk road and be part of the Cookstown-Omagh-Enniskillen-Aghalane-Land Frontier Trunk Road-T10;

(4) the length of new road described in Part III of the Schedule which the Department proposes to construct shall become a trunk road and be part of the Aughnacloy-Ballygawley-Enniskillen-Belcoo-Land Frontier-T6.

Stopping up of roads

4.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), the following roads shall be stopped-up—

(a)the roads at the junctions described in Part IV of the Schedule;

(b)the roads described in Part V of the Schedule at the points and at the lines specified in that Part; and

(c)the roads described in Part VI of the Schedule at the lines specified in that Part.

(2) The roads referred to in paragraph (1) shall not be stopped-up until the Department has carried out such works as it considers necessary for the provision of alternative facilities for road traffic.

(3) The Department shall carry out such works as it considers necessary to prevent or restrict to such extent as the Department thinks fit, access to the roads described in Parts IV and V of the Schedule by road traffic and to the roads described in Part VI of the Schedule to motor vehicles.
