An Act to amend the Law relating to the Presentation of Accounts, Statements, Returns, and Documents to Parliament.

This Act may be cited as “The Parliamentary Returns Act 1869.”
Whenever it appears to the Commissioners of Her Majesty’s Treasury that any account, statement, return, or document required by any Act of Parliament or otherwise to be laid before one or both Houses of Parliament contains the same information as or less information than is contained in the [F1resource accounts prepared under the Government Resources and Accounts Act 2000], or in any account, statement, return, or document which is annually laid before one or both Houses of Parliament, or that the same has otherwise become obsolete, such Commissioners may by minute direct that after the date of such minute coming into operation the account, statement, return, or other document therein mentioned shall be discontinued, and upon the minute coming into operation the same shall be discontinued accordingly, and shall not be prepared or laid before either House of Parliament.

Every minute so made by the Treasury shall be laid before both Houses of Parliament as soon as may be after it is made, and shall not come into operation until it has lain before Parliament for thirty days on which either House of Parliament has actually sat, or until such later date as may be in that behalf prescribed in the minute, and shall not come into operation at all if during such thirty days a resolution against its so coming into operation is passed by either House of Parliament.
