This Order is made in exercise of the powers conferred by section 13(2)(c) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005(1).
The Secretary of State has consulted the person appointed for the purposes of section 14(2) of that Act, the Intelligence Services Commissioner and the Director-General of the Security Service about the making of this Order.
In accordance with section 13(4) of that Act, a draft of this Order was laid before Parliament and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament.
Accordingly, the Secretary of State makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 (Continuance in Force of Sections 1 to 9) Order 2011 and shall come into force on 11th March 2011.
2. Sections 1 to 9 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 shall not expire in accordance with article 2 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 (Continuance in Force of Sections 1 to 9) Order 2010(2) but shall continue in force for a period ending on 31st December 2011.

This Order continues in force until the end of 31st December 2011 sections 1 to 9 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005, which would otherwise expire at the end of 10th March 2011 pursuant to article 2 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005 (Continuance in Force of Sections 1 to 9) Order 2010.
Sections 1 to 9 of that Act enable a control order to be made against an individual where the Secretary of State has reasonable grounds for suspecting that individual is or has been involved in terrorism-related activity and it is necessary to impose obligations on that individual for purposes connected with protecting members of the public from a risk of terrorism.
S.I. 2010/645. Sections 1 to 9 were previously continued in force by S.I. 2009/554, S.I. 2008/559, S.I.2007/706 and S.I. 2006/512.
