The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10(2) and 12(3) of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in the Secretary of State(2).
In accordance with section 10(2) of that Act, the Secretary of State has taken into consideration the requirements of local and national planning, including the requirements of agriculture, and is satisfied as to expediency.
This Order is made in compliance with the provisions of Part I and III of Schedule 1 of that Act.
1. This Order may be cited as The A453 Trunk Road (Mill Hill Roundabout) (Detrunking) Order 2022 and shall come into force on
2. In this Order—
(a)“the trunk road” means the A453 Trunk Road;
(b)“the plan” means the plan numbered LWL/675/X23 and marked “The A453 Trunk Road (Mill Hill Roundabout) (Detrunking) Order 2022” signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at Deposited Document Services, One Priory Square, Priory Street, Hastings, East Sussex, TN34 1EA; and
(c)“classified road” as a classification for a highway means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instruments which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads.
3. The area of highway described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by cross hatching on the plan shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a classified road from the date on which this Order comes into force and responsibility for which will pass to the local highway authority, Nottinghamshire County Council on that date.

Regulation 3
The area of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is 360 square metres of the existing A453 Trunk Road forming part of the Mill Hill Roundabout, in the District of Rushcliffe, in the County of Nottinghamshire, as show by cross hatching on the plan.
(This note is not part of the Order)
The Mill Hill Roundabout on the A453 is being reconfigured to include a new junction and roundabout arrangement connecting onto a classified road which leads on to development to the east. The purpose of the Order is to remove the trunk road status from the length of the trunk road in the Schedule to the Order, the responsibility for which will pass to the local highway authority, Nottinghamshire County Council.
1980 c. 66, section 10 is amended by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (c. 22), section 22(2)(a), and the Infrastructure Act 2015 (c. 7), paragraph 10(2) of Schedule 1. There are further amendments to section 10 which are not relevant to this Order.
