The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Article 1(2) of the Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1999(1), hereby makes the following Order: –
1. This Order may be cited as the Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2003.
2. The provisions of the Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 “the 1999 Order” specified in the Schedule to this Order insofar as they relate to special measures directions for persons under 17 and Article 10 of the 1999 Order shall come into operation on 30th June 2003.

This first commencement Order brings into operation the provisions of the Criminal Evidence (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 in so far as they relate to child witnesses.
