The Department for Social Development makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 21(1) of the Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2008(1).
1. This Order may be cited as the Pensions (2008 Act) (Commencement No. 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2009.
2. The day appointed for the coming into operation of section 12 of the Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 (conversion of guaranteed minimum pensions)—
(a)for the purpose only of authorising the making of regulations, is 3rd March 2009, and
(b)for all other purposes, is 6th April 2009.

This Order provides for the coming into operation of section 12 of the Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2008 on 3rd March 2009 for the purpose only of authorising the making of regulations and 6th April 2009 for all other purposes.
Section 12 introduces new provisions into the Pension Schemes (Northern Ireland) Act 1993 (c. 49) to allow guaranteed minimum pensions to be converted into other pension benefits.
