The Scottish Ministers make the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 1(1) and 32(1) of the UEFA European Championship (Scotland) Act 2020(1) and all other powers enabling them to do so.

Citation, commencement, cessation and interpretation

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the UEFA European Championship (Scotland) Act 2020 (Championship Period and Transitory Provision etc.) Regulations 2021 and come into force on 31 May 2021.

(2) These Regulations cease to have effect on the day on which the Act ceases to have effect.

(3) In these Regulations, “the Act” means the UEFA European Championship (Scotland) Act 2020.

Specification of Championship period

2.  The “Championship period” for the purposes of the Act means the period beginning on 31 May 2021 and ending on 11 July 2021.

Transitory provision

3.  During the Championship period specified in regulation 2, an “event zone” as defined in section 1(1) of the Act means only the Hampden Park zone.

Consequential provision

4.  During the Championship period specified in regulation 2, the UEFA European Championship (Trading and Advertising) (Scotland) Regulations 2020(2) are amended in accordance with regulation 5.

5.—(1) In regulation 2 (general interpretation), for the definition of “event zone”, substitute—

“event zone” is defined in schedule 1, and the event zone defined in schedule 1 is shown delineated on the map in schedule 3,.

(2) In schedule 3 (maps of event zones), omit the second and third maps.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

The UEFA European Championship (Scotland) Act 2020 provides that the Championship period for the purposes of that Act means the period of not more than 42 days, and ending not later than 31 December 2022, specified in regulations made by the Scottish Ministers. These Regulations specify that the Championship period is the period beginning on 31 May 2021 and ending on 11 July 2021.

These Regulations make a transitory provision to the effect that for the purposes of the UEFA European Championship (Scotland) Act 2020 during the Championship period as specified in regulation 2 of these Regulations only the Hampden Park zone is an event zone.

Consequential to the transitory provision, these Regulations also amend the definition of “event zone” included in the UEFA European Championship (Trading and Advertising) (Scotland) Regulations 2020 and omit the maps of the George Square zone and the Merchant City zone set out in schedule 3 of those Regulations.
