Articles 2 and 3

SCHEDULEDESCRIPTIONS OF BOUNDARIES OF ELECTORAL DIVISIONS FOR WESTERN ISLES ISLANDS AREA

Electoral Division 1: Port of Ness

Commencing at MLWS on the northwest coast of the Isle of Lewis at the mouth of the Swainbost River; then generally northward and southward following MLWS to the Barvas/Stornoway parish boundary south of Dun Othail on the northeast coast of Lewis; then northwestward in a straight line to the point where the unclassified road from Cross to Skigersta crosses the Swainbost River south of Swainbost; then generally northwestward along the Swainbost River to the point of commencement.

Note: ED 1 contains the islands of Rona and Sula Sgeir.

Electoral Division 2: Dell

Commencing at MLWS on the northwest coast of the Isle of Lewis at the western boundary of ED 1; then generally southeastward following the said ED boundary to the Barvas/Stornoway parish boundary; then generally southwestward along the said parish boundary to the point at which it crosses the Gress River; then northwestward in a straight line to the source of the Allt Fisgro; then generally northward following the Allt Fisgro to its mouth at MLWS; then generally northeastward following MLWS to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 3: Barvas

Commencing at MLWS on the northwest coast of the Isle of Lewis at the western boundary of ED 2; then generally southeastward along the said ED boundary to the Barvas/Stornoway parish boundary; then generally southwestward along the said boundary to a point due south of the summit of Roishal Mor; then in a straight line northward through the said summit to meet the principal river flowing through Gleann Bhruthadail; then generally northwestward and northward along the said river, and through the centres of Lochs Bhruthadail and Urrahag to the River Ereray; then continuing northward along the River Ereray and crossing Loch Ereray to the river draining the said loch to the sea; then continuing generally northward along the said river to its mouth at MLWS; then generally northeastward along MLWS to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 4: Shawbost

Commencing at MLWS on the northwest coast of the Isle of Lewis at the western boundary of ED 3; then generally southward following the said ED boundary to the Barvas/Stornoway parish boundary; then generally southwestward along the said parish boundary to the Barvas/Uig parish boundary; then generally northwestward along the said parish boundary to the northern shore of Feath Loch Gleaharan; then northwestward in a straight line to MLWS at Rudha na h-Airde; then generally northeastward along MLWS to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 5: Carloway

Commencing at MLWS on the northwest coast of the Isle of Lewis at the western boundary of ED 4; then generally southeastward following the said ED boundary to the Uig/Stornoway parish boundary; then generally southwestward following the said parish boundary and the Uig/Lochs parish boundary to a point in Loch Langavat opposite the stream connecting the said loch with Loch Faoghail nan Caorach; then generally northward through the following lochs and their connecting streams:—

  • Loch Faoghail nan Caorach

  • Loch Airigh na h-Airde

  • Loch Faoghail Kirraval

  • Loch Faoghail Charrasan

  • Loch Faoghail an Tuim

to the Abhainn Grimersta; then continuing northward along the said burn and through Loch Ceann Hulavig and East Loch Roag, passing to the east of Eilean Kearstay and Keava to the open sea; then generally northeastward along the coast to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 6: Uig

Commencing on the northwest coast of the Isle of Lewis at the western boundary of ED 5; then generally southward following the said ED boundary to the Uig/Lochs parish boundary; then generally southwestward following the said parish boundary to the Uig/Harris parish boundary; then generally northwestward following the said parish boundary to Loch Resort; then westward through Loch Resort to the open sea; then generally northward and eastward along the coast to the point of commencement.

Note: ED 6 contains the Flannan Islands.

Electoral Di vision 7: Gress

Commencing at MLWS on the eastern coast of the Isle of Lewis at the southern boundary of ED 2; then generally southward following MLWS to the mouth of the Allt na Slugaide; then generally westward along the said burn to the field boundary at grid reference NB 4852 3987; then northward along the said field boundary to the B895 road; then westward along the said road to the junction with Back Road; then northward along the said Back Road to the field boundary at grid reference NB 4848 4017; then northwestward along said field boundary to the access road to Feu No 62 Vatisker; then northwestward, northward and westward along the said access road and the east and north boundaries of said feu; then generally northward and northwestward along the boundary between Vatisker and Back to grid reference NB 4831 4071; then southwestward, northwestward, and again southwestward along the northwest, northeast and northwest boundaries of Vatisker feus to meet the extension of Church Street at grid reference NB 4724 4126; then northwestward along the line of continuation of said extension to the southernmost point of Loch Ullavat a' Deas; then along the eastern shore of said loch to its most easterly point; then northward to meet the Gress River; then northwards along said river to meet the southern boundary of ED 2; then generally northeastward along southern boundary of ED 2 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 8: Coll

Commencing at MLWS on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis at the southern boundary of ED 7; then generally southward following MLWS to Clethloch at grid reference NB 4644 3741; then westward to meet fenceline at grid reference NB 4627 3741; then northwestward along the fenceline to meet the B895 road at grid reference NB 4554 3763; then continuing northwestward along a track and a continuation thereof to Allt an t-sniomh; then generally westwards along said Allt an t-sniomh and Allt Molach to its source; then due westward in a straight line to meet the A857; and then generally northward along the A857 to meet eastern boundary of ED 3; then generally northeastward and southeastward following the western boundary and southern boundary of ED 7 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 9: Blackwater

Commencing at MLWS on the east coast of Isle of Lewis on southern boundary of ED 8; then generally southward following MLWS to estuary of River Laxdale; then generally southwestward, westward and northwestward following the main channel and course of the said river to its source; then in a straight line north to meet the southern boundary of ED 3; then generally northeastward and southeastward following said ED boundary and southern boundary of ED 8 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 10: Laxdale

Commencing at a point in the estuary of the River Laxdale on the southern boundary of ED 9 in line with the track that forms the northern continuation of Goathill Road; then generally southwestward to and along the said track to Perceval Road South; then generally northwestward along the said road to Macaulay Road; then generally northward along Macaulay Road to the Road following the southern curtilages of the southernmost properties in Guershader; then westward along the said road and its prolongation in a straight line to the eastern boundary of the plot containing the War Memorial; then generally westward and southwestward following the boundaries of the plot containing the War Memorial and Loch na Feola in a curving line to meet the track leading to Bennadrove Road; then continuing southwestward along the track to the said road; then southeastward along Bennadrove Road and its continuation to the A859 road; then generally southwestward along the said road to the point at which it crosses the River Creed, and the Stornoway/Lochs parish boundary; then generally westward following the Stornoway/Lochs parish boundary to the eastern boundary of ED 5; then generally northward and eastward following the said ED boundary, the eastern boundary of ED 4 and the southern boundaries of EDs 3 and 9 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 11: Coulregrein

Commencing at the southern boundary of ED 10 at the junction of Macaulay Road and Perceval Road South; then generally southward along Macaulay Road to the access road to the golf club; then westward along the said access road to the bridge over the Bayhead River; then generally southward following the Bayhead River to and along MLWS in Stornoway Harbour to the mouth of the River Creed, and the Stornoway/Lochs parish boundary; then generally northwestward along the said parish boundary to the eastern boundary of ED 10; then generally northward and eastward and southward along the said ED boundary to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 12: Manor Park

Commencing on the eastern boundary of ED 10 at the junction of Perceval Road South and Goathill Road; then southwestward along Goathill Road to Jamieson Drive; then northwestward along Jamieson Drive to Westview Terrace; then southwestward along Westview Terrace to Torquil Terrace; then westward along Torquil Terrace to the eastern boundary of ED 11 at Macaulay Road; then northward along the said ED boundary and southeastward along the boundary of ED 10 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 13: Bayhead

Commencing on the southern boundary of ED 12 at the junction of Jamieson Drive and Balmerino Drive; then southwestward along Balmerino Drive and westward round the roundabout to Leverhulme Drive; then northwestward along Leverhulme Drive to Robertson Road; then southwestward along Robertson Road to Matheson Road; then southward along Matheson Road to Church Street; then westward along Church Street to Kenneth Street; then northward along Kenneth Street to its northern end; then in a straight line westward to the eastern boundary of ED 11 in the Bayhead River; then generally northward along the said ED boundary and the southern boundary of ED 12 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 14: Goathill

Commencing at the point where the eastern boundary of ED 10 meets the southern boundary of ED 9; then generally eastward along the southern boundary of ED 9 to the Pool of Tong and the channel formed by the drain flowing northeastward between Tolmie Terrace and Stewarts Field; then southwestward along the said channel and drain to Anderson Road; then eastward along Anderson Road to Mossend Road; then southwestward along Mossend Road to Sandwick Road; then westward along Sandwick Road to Matheson Road; then northward along Matheson Road to the eastern boundary of ED 13 at Church Street; then generally northeastward following the said ED boundary, the southern and eastern boundaries of ED 12 and the eastern boundary of ED 10 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 15: Newton

Commencing on the Bayhead River at the southern boundary of ED 13; then southward and eastward following the said ED boundary to the western boundary of ED 14; then southward and eastward along the western and southern boundaries of ED 14 to the junction of Mossend Road and Sandwick Road; then continuing eastward along Sandwick Road and East Street to the junction with the road to Stoney Field and Holm Farm; then southward along the said road for a distance of 150 metres or thereby; then in a westerly direction along the footpath for a distance of 200 metres or thereby; then in a southwesterly direction for a distance of 220 metres or thereby; then due south to the western boundary of the unnamed lochan and then in a south westerly direction to the MLWS at Mol Sandwick Beag; then generally northwestward following MLWS to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 16: Sandwick

Commencing at the point at which the eastern boundary of ED 14 meets the southern boundary of ED 9 at the Pool of Tong; then generally northeastward following the southern boundary of ED 9, to and southeastward along MLWS to a point due north of the easternmost point on Loch Branahuie; then southward in a straight line passing through the said point to MLWS in Branahuie Banks; then generally westward following MLWS to the eastern boundary of ED 15, then generally northward along the said ED boundary and the eastern boundary of ED 14 to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 17: Aignish

Commencing at the eastern boundary of ED 16 at MLWS in Broad Bay; then generally northeastward along MLWS to the northernmost point on Gob Hunisgeir then due south in a straight line to meet the Allt na Muilne then in a straight line southwestward to the road junction at grid reference NB 5177 3276; then southeastward along the unclassified road to Bayble Pier to the MLWS at Bayble Pier; then generally southwestward and northwestward following MLWS to the eastern boundary of ED 16; then northward along said ED boundary to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 18: Tiumpan

Contains that part of the Eye Peninsula lying east of the eastern boundary of ED 17.

Electoral Division 19: North Lochs

Commencing on the eastern boundary of ED 5 at the southern boundary of ED 10; then generally eastward along the southern boundaries of EDs 10 and 11 to the mouth of the River Creed in Stornoway Harbour; then generally southward along the coast to a point in Loch Erisort in prolongation of a line running through the northernmost point on Loch Keose to grid reference NB 2728 2558 on the shore of Loch Trealaval at the Uig/Lochs parish boundary and the eastern boundary of ED 5; then westward along the said line to and northeastward along the said ED boundary to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 20: Lochs

Commencing on the Uig/Harris parish boundary at the junction of the western and southern boundaries of ED 6; then northeastward along the southeastern boundaries of EDs 6 and 5 and eastward along the southern boundary of ED 19 to the seaward end of Loch Erisort on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis; then generally southward and southwestward following the east coast of the Isle of Lewis and Harris to the seaward end of Loch Seaforth; then generally northward through Loch Seaforth and passing west of Seaforth Island to the Lochs/Harris parish boundary west of Aline Lodge; then generally westward following the said parish boundary to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 21: Tarbert

Commencing on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis at the southern boundary of ED 6; then generally eastward and southward following the said ED boundary and the southwestern boundary of ED 20 to the seaward end of Loch Seaforth; then generally southward along the east coast of Harris to the eastern end of the Sound of Scalpay; then westward through the Sound of Scalpay and East Loch Tarbert to a point on the shore of the said loch opposite the pier at Tarbert; then westward in a straight line to the cairn at the summit of Cnoc na Cloiche; then northeastward in a straight line to a point on the shore of West Loch Tarbert opposite the pier at West Tarbert; then generally northwestward through West Loch Tarbert, passing to the south of the islands of Isay, Glas-Sgeir, Soay Mor and Soay Beag to the open sea; then generally northward along the west coast of the Isle of Lewis to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 22: Bays

Commencing in West Loch Tarbert at the southern boundary of ED 21; then generally eastward following the said ED boundary to the eastern end of the Sound of Scalpay; then generally southwestward along the coast and passing to the east of islands of Scalpay and Stockinish to the seaward end of Loch Stockinish; then generally northward through Loch Stockinish to a point due east of the summit of Knock Geimisgarave; then westward in a straight line to the said summit; then northwestward in a straight line to the summit of West Stocklett at 218 metres; then continuing northwestward in a straight line to the summit of Clett na Duach at 117 metres; then continuing northwestward in a straight line to the northernmost point on Rubha Reamhar; then due west to the Faodhail Luskentyre; then generally northwestward along the said channel to its mouth; then generally northward along the coast to the point of commencement.

Electoral Division 23: Obbe

Contains that part of Harris lying south and west of ED 22, and includes the islands of Taransay, St Kilda and Rockall and the islands in the southern part of the parish of Harris with the exception of Berneray and Torogay.

Electoral Division 24: Paible

Contains that part of North Uist north of the line described below—

Commencing at Bial a' Chaolais on the west coast of North Uist; then generally northeastward following the main channel flowing through Oitir Mhor and the channel from Loch Ardheisker to a point due west of the mouth of the stream entering Oitir Mhor south of Dusary Mill; then eastward to and northward along the said stream and through the unnamed loch to the A865 road; then crossing the said road and continuing northeastward along Committee Road to spot height 58.2 metres on that road; then eastward in a straight line to the summit of Marrival; then continuing eastward in a straight line to the Standing Stones (Na Fir Bhreige) northwest of the summit of Blashaval; then continuing eastward in a straight line to the northern shore of Loch Blashaval; then generally southeastward through Loch Blashaval, passing to the north of Minish Island and continuing southeastward through Loch Maddy to the open sea.

Note: ED 24 includes the islands of Berneray and Torogay.

Electoral Division 25: Lochmaddy

Contains that part of North Uist lying south of the line described in ED 24, and north of the main channel between North Uist and Benbecula.

Electoral Division 26: Benbecula

Contains Benbecula and the small islands lying to the north and east of the main channel between Benbecula and South Uist.

Electoral Division 27: Iochdar and Electoral Division 28: Lochboisdale

Lie north and south respectively of the line across the island of South Uist described below—

Commencing at a point on west coast of South Uist grid reference NF 7285 2170; then in a straight line eastward to Loch Hallan and across the said loch to its eastern shore; then north eastward along the shore of Loch Hallan and eastward along the northern boundary of Aird Ruairidh to Loch a' Mhuilinn; then from the eastern-most point of said loch eastward in a straight line to the A865; then generally southeastward to Loch nan Siaman, along eastern shore of said loch to its most easterly point; then northeastward in a straight line through an unnamed lochan to the southernmost point of Loch na Capall; then following eastmost shore of said loch to its most northerly point; then in a straight line west to Loch na h-Airigh-Duibhe; then northward in a straight line to the most southerly point of Loch Crogavat; then following eastern shore of said loch to its most northeasterly point; then eastward in a straight line to Loch Stulaval; then following northern shore of said loch to its most easterly point; then southeastward in a straight line through Loch nan Arm and following the line of Allt Chroshaval to the MLWS on the east coast of South Uist south west of Sgeir an Fheidh.

Note: ED 28 contains Island of Eriskay

Electoral Division 29: Northbay and Electoral Division 30: Castlebay

Lie north and south respectively of the line across the island of Barra described below—

Commencing at a point on MLWS on the western side of the island in line with the field boundary that meets the A888 road connecting Castlebay and Borve at grid reference NF 6491 0093; then southeastward to and along the said field boundary to the point at which it meets the unnamed burn flowing south to the Struth Cuil na Muic; then in a straight line southeastward to the eastern summit of Beinn na Moine (spot height 217m); then in a straight line southeastward to the summit of Heaval; then continuing in a straight line southeastward to the summit of Beinn na Carnan; then southward in a straight line to MLWS at the southernmost extremity of Rubha Charnain.

Note: ED 30 contains the islands in the parish of Barra lying to the south of Barra.
