Whereas in pursuance of section 11 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966(1) the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has made regulations entitled “The Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners (Registration) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1997” set out in the Schedule to this Order:
And whereas by section 25(1) of the said Act such regulations shall not have effect unless approved by order of the Privy Council:
And whereas by section 25(2) of the said Act any order under the said section 25(1) may be revoked by a subsequent order of the Privy Council:
Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken the said regulations into consideration, in exercise of the powers conferred by the said sections 25(1) and (2), do hereby order as follows:—
1. The said regulations are hereby approved.
2. The Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners (Registration) (Amendment) Regulations Order of Council 1996(2), which has become spent upon the approval of the regulations approved by this Order, is hereby revoked.
3. This Order may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners (Registration) (Amendment) Regulations Order of Council 1998 and shall come into force forthwith.

The Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, in exercise of its powers under section 11 of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, hereby makes the following Regulations—
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners (Registration) (Amendment) Regulations 1997.
2. Regulation 16 of the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners Registration Regulations 1967(3) as amended (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Regulations”) shall be further amended by the deletion of the second sentence and the substitution of the following therefor—
“This fee shall be paid at the time of the application for registration and shall be £161.00 for names entered on the register before 31 March 1998 and £170.00 for names entered on the register on 31 March 1998 and thereafter.”.
3. Regulation 20 of the principal Regulations as amended shall be amended by the deletion in paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) of the amounts “£143.00”, “£50.00” and “£15.00” and the substitution therefor of the amounts “£150.00”, “£75.00” and “£20.00” respectively, and shall be further amended by the addition of a new sub-paragraph which shall read: “And Provided that where a member pays by credit card, a fee of £10.00 shall be payable, in addition to the amounts specified in paragraphs (a) to (e) above.”.
4. Regulation 22 of the principal Regulations shall be amended by the deletion of the amounts “£18.00” and “£10.00” and the substitution therefor of the amounts “£20.00” and “£15.00”respectively.
5. Regulation 23 of the principal Regulations shall be amended by the deletion in the first and third sentences of paragraph (b) of the amount “£161.00” and the substitution therefor in each case of the amount “£170.00”.
6. The Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners (Registration) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1995(4) are hereby revoked.

The Regulations approved by this Order further amend the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Practitioners Registration Regulations 1967 by increasing, with effect from 31st March 1998, the fees payable for the registration and annual retention of names on, and restoration to, the Registers of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The existing fees, which came into effect on 31st March 1996, are being increased by the following percentages:—
Retention fees for UK members | 4.8% |
Retention fees for overseas members | 50% |
Retention fees for retired members | 33% |
Registration fee | 5.5% |
Restoration fee | 11% |
Temporary list registration fee | 5.5% |
