(1)A [F2bus operator's] licence shall, unless previously revoked, continue in force for a period of three years from the date on which it is expressed to take effect or such [F3 other period as may be specified therein].
(2)If on the date of the expiration of a [F4bus operator's ] licence an application is before the Ministry for the grant of a new [F4bus operator's] licence in substitution for an existing [F4bus operator's ] licence held by the applicant, the existing [F4bus operator's ] licence shall continue in force until the application is disposed of.
F5[(2A)If on the date of the expiration of a [F6bus operator's] licence the licence is, by virtue of regulations made under section 33, held by a person other than the person to whom the licence was granted, the licence shall continue in force until the application by that other person for a new [F6bus operator's] licence is disposed of in accordance with those regulations.]

(4)The holder of a [F8bus operator's] licence may, subject to any conditions attached to the licence, at any time surrender the licence to the Ministry.
