[F1(1)]In this Act—
[F2“the 2009 Regulation” means Regulation (EC) No. 1071/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 October 2009 establishing common rules concerning the conditions to be complied with to pursue the occupation of road transport operator and repealing Council Directive 96/26/EC;]
[F3“the 2009 Regulation (EU)” means Regulation (EC) No 1071/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 October 2009 establishing common rules concerning the conditions to be complied with to pursue the occupation of road transport operator and repealing Council Directive 96/26/EC, as that Regulation has effect in EU law;]
[F4“Regulation (EC) No 1073/2009” means Regulation (EC) No 1073/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 October 2009 on common rules for access to the international market for coach and bus services, and amending Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 [F5, as that Regulation has effect in EU law];]
“appointed day” means, in relation to any provision of this Act, such day as may be appointed under section 83(2) for the coming into operation of that provision;
“the Authority” has the meaning assigned to it by section 68(1);
[F6“bus operator's licence” has the meaning assigned to it by section 4(1);]

“motor vehicle” means a road vehicle moved, propelled or drawn by mechanical or electrical power;

“railway services” and “railway undertaking” have the meanings assigned to them by section 55;

“road authority”F11 has the meaning assigned to it by section 42 of the Roads Act (Northern Ireland) 1948 [1948 c.28] ;

“stage services” means bus services within the meaning of section 14(7) of the Finance Act (Northern Ireland) 1966 [1966 c.21] ;
“statutory provision” has the meaning assigned to it by section 1( f) of the Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 [1954 c.33] ;
“subsidiary”, in relation to the Holding Company, has[F13 the meaning given by [F14section 1159 of the Companies Act 2006]];
[F15“transport manager” means a person who effectively and continuously manages the transport activities of a road passenger transport operator.]
