Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 of 22 December 2004 on the protection of animals during transport and related operations and amending Directives 64/432/EEC and 93/119/EC and Regulation (EC) No 1255/97

1.No person shall transport animals by road for a long journey unless the means of transport has been inspected and approved under Article 18(1) [F1of this Regulation or has been inspected and approved in Northern Ireland under Article 18(1) of the EU Council Regulation].
2.No person shall transport by sea, for more than 10 nautical miles, domestic Equidae and domestic animals of bovine, ovine, caprine or porcine species from a [F2port in Great Britain] unless the livestock vessel has been inspected and approved under Article 19(1) [F3of this Regulation or has been inspected and approved in Northern Ireland under Article 19(1) of the EU Council Regulation].
3.The provisions of paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 apply to containers used for the transport of domestic Equidae or domestic animals of bovine, ovine, caprine or porcine species by road and/or by water, for long journeys.
