Amount of grant E+W

117.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), the grant payable to an eligible postgraduate student under this Part is such amount as the Welsh Ministers consider appropriate to assist with one or more types of eligible expenditure.

[F1 (2) The grant must not exceed—

(a) [F2 £33,460] in respect of expenditure on a non-medical personal helper, major items of specialist equipment and any other expenditure the eligible postgraduate student incurs in connection with the course by reason of the student’s disability; and

(b) the additional expenditure incurred—

(i) within the United Kingdom for the purpose of attending the institution;

(ii) within or outside the United Kingdom for the purpose of attending, as part of the course, any period of study at an overseas institution or for the purposes of attending the Institute.]

[F3 (3) For the purposes of this Part, the “types of eligible expenditure” means the expenditure described in paragraph (2)(a) and (b).]

(4) Subject to [F4 paragraph (6)], a grant under this Part is payable to an eligible postgraduate student in respect of the four quarters of the academic year.

(6) Where one of the events listed in regulation 111(2) occurs in the course of an academic year, an eligible postgraduate student may only qualify for a grant under this Part [F6 for the purposes specified in paragraph (2)(a) and (b) in respect of the academic year from the date that the relevant event listed in regulation 111(2) occurs].
