In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 4(1) and (7) of the Audit (Northern Ireland) Order 1987(1) and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Salaries (Comptroller and Auditor General) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997 and shall come into operation on 7th August 1997.
2. The Salaries (Comptroller and Auditor General) Order (Northern Ireland) 1995(2) is hereby revoked.
3. The annual salary payable to the holder of the office of Comptroller and Auditor General shall be increased as follows—
(a)from £69,728 to £74,784 from 1st April 1996,
(b)from £74,784 to £75,510 from 1st December 1996,
(c)from £75,510 to £80,144 from 1st April 1997,
(d)from £80,144 to £80,930 from 1st December 1997.

This Order provides for increases in the annual salary payable to the Comptroller and Auditor General following recommendations made in the reports of the Review Body on Senior Salaries in 1996 (HMSO CM3094) and 1997 (HMSO CM3540).
These increases include increases made with retrospective effect from 1st April 1996 under Article 4(7) of the Audit (Northern Ireland) Order 1987.
Article 2 revokes the Salaries (Comptroller and Auditor General) Order (Northern Ireland) 1995.
