NURSES, MIDWIVES AND HEALTH VISITORS

The Department of Health and Social Services for Northern Ireland, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 6(1)(e) of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1997(1) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting for Northern Ireland (Constitution and Administration) Amendment Order (Northern Ireland) 1997 and shall come into operation on 1st November 1997.
2. In the National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting for Northern Ireland (Constitution and Administration) Order (Northern Ireland) 1993(2) in Article 15 (functions of the Board)—
(a)in paragraph (1), for the words “functions specified in paragraphs (2) and (3)” there shall be substituted the words “function specified in paragraph (2)”; and
(b)paragraph (3) shall be omitted.

This Order amends the National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting for Northern Ireland (Constitution and Administration) Order (Northern Ireland) 1993, which makes provision concerning the constitutuion and administration of the National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting for Northern Ireland (“the Board”).
The Order removes the Board’s duty to introduce persons wishing to qualify for registration in the register of nurses, midwives and health visitors to approved institutions with vacancies on their training courses. It revokes the legislation under which that duty was introduced.
