The Welfare Reform and Pensions (1999 Order) (Commencement No. 8) Order (Northern Ireland) 2001

The Department for Social Development, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 1(2) of the Welfare Reform and Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1999(1), and now vested in it(2), and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Welfare Reform and Pensions (1999 Order) (Commencement No. 8) Order (Northern Ireland) 2001.

(2) In this Order any reference to a numbered Article or Schedule is to the Article of, or the Schedule to, the Welfare Reform and Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 bearing that number.

Appointed day

2.  The day appointed for the coming into operation of—

(a)Article 16 (compensating occupational pension schemes) in so far as not already in operation; and

(b)in Part I of Schedule 10 (repeals) the repeal in Article 81(3)(a) of the Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(3) and Article 76 in so far as it relates to that repeal,

is 23rd April 2001.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order provides for the coming into operation on 23rd April 2001, in so far as it is not already in operation, of Article 16 of the Welfare Reform and Pensions (Northern Ireland) Order 1999 to make further provision for the compensation payable by the Pensions Compensation Board to schemes whose assets have been reduced in value as a result of certain acts or omissions. An associated repeal is brought into operation on the same date.
