Statutory Rules of Northern Ireland

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 87 of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002 (Commencement No. 5) Order 2003.
2. The provisions of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002 specified in the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 1st December 2003.
3.—(1) The following provisions of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002 shall come into force on 18th December 2003.
(2) The provisions referred to in paragraph (1) are –
section 46(1) to (5) (functions of Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice);
section 48 (powers of inspectors);
section 49 (reports); and
section 71 (community safety strategy).

This Commencement Order brings into force on 1st December 2003 the provisions of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002 listed in the Schedule to this Order and on 18th December 2003 the provisions of the Justice (Northern Ireland) Act 2002 listed in Article 3(2).
