The Department of the Environment makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 55(1) and 110(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(1).

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 and shall come into operation on 31st October 2014.

Amendment of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations

2.  Regulation 125(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999(2) is amended as follows—

(a)omit “or” at the end of sub-paragraph (c);

(b)at the end of sub-paragraph (d) omit the full stop and add—

;

(e)to assist a police officer in a police vehicle—

(i)to ascertain the location of other vehicles;

(ii)to detect criminal activity; or

(iii)to apprehend a person suspected of criminal activity; or

(f)to assist a vehicle examiner in a vehicle used for Driver and Vehicle Agency enforcement purposes in the exercise of their duties..

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

These Regulations amend regulation 125(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 to allow:

(a)a police officer to view information on an in-car screen to ascertain the location of other vehicles or to assist in the detection and the apprehension of criminals; and

(b)a vehicle examiner to view information on an in-car screen when in a vehicle used for Driver and Vehicle Agency enforcement purposes.
