The Department of Justice, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 25(1) and 26(1) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998(1), makes the following Regulations. Those powers are now vested in the Department(2).
In accordance with sections 25(8) and 26(6) of that Act the Department has consulted the Northern Ireland Policing Board and the Police Association for Northern Ireland before making these Regulations.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Police Service of Northern Ireland (Amendment) Regulations 2022 and shall come into operation on 18th April 2022.
2.—(1) The Police Service of Northern Ireland Regulations 2005 shall be amended in accordance with paragraph (2).
(2) In regulation 3(1) in paragraph (a) of the definition of “public holiday” for 2022 only, for the words “and last Monday in May” substitute “, 2nd and 3rd June”.
3.—(1) The Police Service of Northern Ireland and Police Service of Northern Ireland Reserve (Injury Benefit) Regulations 2006 shall be amended in accordance with paragraph (2).
(2) In Schedule 1 in the definition of “public holiday”, for 2022 only, for the words “and last Monday in May” substitute “, 2nd and 3rd June”.

These Regulations amend the Police Service of Northern Ireland Regulations 2005 and the Police Service of Northern Ireland and Police Service of Northern Ireland Reserve (Injury Benefit) Regulations 2006 to allow, for 2022 only, the public holiday on the last Monday in May to be replaced by public holidays on 2nd and 3rd June to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
1998 c.32. Relevant amendments are made by section 78(1) of and paragraph 23 of Schedule 6 to the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000.
Article 5 of and paragraphs 9 and 10 of Schedule 3 to the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (Devolution of Policing and Justice Functions) Order (S.I. 2010/976) transferred the regulation making powers of the Secretary of State to the Department of Justice.
