The Scottish Ministers make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 48(2) of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014(1) and all other powers enabling them to do so.
In accordance with section 99(2) of that Act, a draft of this Order has been laid before and approved by resolution of the Scottish Parliament.
1. This Order may be cited as the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 (Modification) (No. 2) Order 2019 and comes into force on 1 August 2020.
2.—(1) The Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 is modified in accordance with this article.
(2) In section 48 (mandatory amount of early learning and childcare), in subsection (1)(a), for “600 hours” substitute “1140 hours”.

This Order modifies the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 (“the 2014 Act”). Part 6 of the 2014 Act makes provision for early learning and childcare.
Article 2(2) modifies section 48(1)(a) of the 2014 Act (mandatory amount of early learning and childcare) to increase the mandatory amount of early learning and childcare from 600 hours to 1140 hours each year.
