(1)A [F2local authority] shall—
(a)make such reports and returns to the Secretary of State, and
(b)give to the Secretary of State such information,
as he may require for the purpose of the exercise of his functions under this Act.

(3)A [F2local authority] shall—
(a)compile such information, and
(b)make such provision for conducting, or assisting the conduct of, research,
as may be required for the purpose of providing the Secretary of State F4. . . , in such form and at such times as may be prescribed, with such information relating to the provision of primary or secondary education in the area of the [F2local authority] as may be prescribed.
(4)The Secretary of State shall exercise his powers under subsection (3) so as to secure, in particular, the provision of information relating to the provision of education for children with special educational needs.
[F5(4A)In subsection (4) as it applies in relation to the Welsh Ministers, the reference to special educational needs is to be interpreted as a reference to additional learning needs.]
(5)A [F2local authority] shall, at such time or times and in such manner as may be required by regulations, publish such information as may be so required with respect to their policy and arrangements in respect of any matter relating to primary or secondary education.

[F7(6A)The Welsh Ministers may, by regulations, require local authorities in Wales to publish prescribed information, at such times and in such manner as may be prescribed, for the purpose of providing information to the public about whether, and if so how, local authority education functions are being exercised to promote the purpose of the Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015 (see section 1 of that Act).]
