European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018

The Charter of Fundamental Rights

  1. The Charter of Fundamental Rights sets out various rights and principles. It includes ‘EU fundamental rights’, which have been recognised as a general principle of EU law by the CJEU. In 2009 the Charter was given the same legal status as the EU Treaties. The Charter sets out fifty rights and principles, many of which replicate guarantees in the European Convention on Human Rights and other international treaties.
