Coming into Operation
1st January 1974
The Secretary of State, in exercise of powers conferred by section 4 of, and Part I of Schedule 3 to, the European Communities Act 1972 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Import Duties Act 1958 (Repeals) (Appointed Day) Order 1973 and shall come into operation on 1st January 1974.
(2) The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.
2. The repeal of the enactments specified in the Schedule hereto shall take effect on 1st January 1974.

This Order, made under section 4 of, and Part I of Schedule 3 to, the European Communities Act 1972, appoints the 1st January 1974 for the repeal of certain provisions of the Import Duties Act 1958 which will no longer be required as a result of provisions for reductions in, or exemptions from, duty under Orders made under the Import Duties Act 1958 to implement the European Economic Community scheme for relief from duty for goods imported for the building, repairing or refitting of certain ships.
