The Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 33(2) of the Credit Unions Act 1979 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Credit Unions Act 1979 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1979.
2. Sections 1 and 2, 3(1) and 3(4), 4 to 14 and 16 to 31 of, and Schedules 1 to 3 to, the Credit Unions Act 1979 shall come into operation on 20th August 1979.

This Order brings into operation on 20th August 1979 all the provisions of the Credit Unions Act 1979 except sections 3(2) and (3), 15, 32 and 33. Sections 32 and 33 came into operation on the passing of the Act on 4th April 1979. Section 3(2) and (3), which limits the use of the words “credit union”, and section 15, which relates to insurance against fraud or other dishonesty, have not yet been brought into operation.
