Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Employment with a valuation and community charge tribunal was on 1st May 1989 added to the employments listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation Act 1972 (“the 1972 Act”) by the Local Government Finance Act 1988 (c. 41), section 136 and Schedule 11, paragraph 6(6), and so falls within those employments to which the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme and the Civil Service Additional Voluntary Contribution Scheme (made under section 1 of the 1972 Act) may apply. This Order removes employment by a valuation and community charge tribunal from the employments listed in that Schedule. Under the power conferred by section 1(8)(a) of the 1972 Act the Order takes effect from 1st May 1989.

A valuation and community charge tribunal will be a “scheduled body” for the purposes of the Local Government Superannuation Regulations 1986 (S.I. 1986/24) with effect from 1st May 1989 by virtue of the Local Government Superannuation (Valuation and Community Charge Tribunals) Regulations 1989 (S.I. 1989/1624).

(2)

By virtue of article 2(1)(c) of the Transfer of Functions (Minister for the Civil Service and Treasury) Order 1981 (S.I. 1981/1670).
