The East of Christchurch–Tredegar Park Motorway (Connecting Roads Special Roads) (Variation) Scheme 1989

The Secretary of State for Wales makes this Scheme in exercise of his powers under sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and of all other enabling powers:–

1.  The Principal Scheme is hereby varied by substituting for the lengths of road described in Schedule 1 of this Scheme (hereinafter referred to as “the superseded lengths” and contained in paragraph 3(2)(c) and (d) of the Schedule to the Principal Scheme) the lengths of road described in Schedule 2 to this Scheme (hereinafter referred to as “the substituted lengths”).

2.  The effect of the variation to the Principal Scheme made by article 1 of this Scheme is shown on the deposited plan, the superseded lengths being shown by thin black hatching on Schedule 1 of the said plan and the substituted lengths being shown by solid black lines on Schedule 2 of that plan.

3.  The substituted lengths shall become trunk roads on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

4.  In this Scheme–

“the deposited plan” means the plan numbered HA 16/1 WO2 marked “The East of Christchurch–Tredegar Park Motorway (Connecting Roads Special Roads) (Variation) Scheme 1989” signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Welsh Office Repository, Curran Embankment, Cardiff;

“the Principal Scheme” means “The East of Christchurch–Tredegar Park Motorway Connecting Roads Special Roads Scheme 1965(2)”;

“the Motorway” means the M4 Motorway;

“the new Trunk Road Order” means the “M4/Newport–Shrewsbury Trunk Road A4042 (Relief of Brynglas Tunnels and Malpas Road) Order 1989”;

“the reference point” means the point of intersection of the centre line of the Motorway and the centre line of Caerleon Road (B4596); and

“the roundabout” means the existing roundabout at Junction 25 of the Motorway (Caerleon Interchange).

This Scheme shall come into force on 20th October 1989 and may be cited as The East of Christchurch–Tredegar Park Motorway (Connecting Roads Special Roads) (Variation) Scheme 1989.

SCHEDULE 1

1.  The Eastbound Connecting Road

Starting at a point adjoining the north-eastern main carriageway of the Motorway about 318 metres north-west of the reference point and proceeding south-eastwards to join the roundabout.

2.  The Westbound Connecting Road

Starting at a point adjoining the south-western main carriageway of the Motorway about 304 metres north-west of the reference point and proceeding south-eastwards to join the roundabout.

SCHEDULE 2

1.  The Eastbound Connecting Road

Extending for 0.20 kilometres from a point on the new trunk road described in paragraph 2(1) of the Schedule to the new Trunk Road Order approximately 564 metres north-west of the reference point to a point on the eastbound carriageway of the Motorway approximately 384 metres north-west of the reference point.

2.  The Westbound Connecting Road

Extending for 0.18 kilometres from a point on the westbound carriageway of the Motorway approximately 406 metres north-west of the reference point, to a point on the new trunk road described in paragraph 2(2) of the Schedule to the new Trunk Road Order approximately 563 metres north-west of the reference point.
