The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretary of State, being Ministers designated(1) for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972(2) in relation to the common agricultural policy of the European Economic Community, acting jointly in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by the said section 2(2) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Regulations:–

Title, extent and commencement

1.  These Regulations, which may be cited as the Pig Carcase (Grading) (Amendment) Regulations 1989, shall apply in Great Britain and shall come into force on 11th May 1989.

Amendment of the Pig Carcase (Grading) Regulations 1988

2.  The Pig Carcase (Grading) Regulations 1988(3) shall be amended:

(a)by substituting for the definition of “the Commission Decision” in regulation 2(1) thereof the following definition:

“the Commission Decision” means Commission Decision No. 88/234/EEC authorising the methods for grading pig carcases in the United Kingdom(4), as amended by Commission Decision No. 88/478/EEC(5);

(b)by substituting for paragraph 1(iv) of the Schedule thereto (particulars of the occupier of a slaughterhouse to be notified to the appropriate Minister) the following sub-paragraph:

(iv)the council of a London borough the name and address of the council..

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Pig Carcase (Grading) Regulations 1988 in two respects:

(a)by up-dating the definition of the Commission Decision following an amendment to that Decision authorising the methods for grading pig carcases in the United Kingdom (regulation 2(a)); and

(b)by making a minor clarification of the particulars to be notified by an occupier of a slaughterhouse to the appropriate Minister (regulation 2(b)).
