Section 29 of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978 requires an employer to allow time off during working hours, subject to the provisions of the section, to an employee of his who is a justice of the peace, member of a local authority or member of certain other bodies specified in subsection of the section.
This Order modifies section 29(1) by adding boards of visitors for prisons, remand centres and young offender institutions, in England and Wales, and visiting committees for prisons, remand centres and young offenders institutions, in Scotland, to the list of bodies whose members are covered by the section.
